Focus. Clarity. Enterprise Leadership.
5:00am swims have become more than a routine for me over the years…they’re a daily reset. In the quiet of the water, I gain three things that shape how I lead each day:
1) Clarity – before the noise of the day begins, the path forward becomes simpler; I communicate more clearly because I understand what is required; and it allows for greater levels of execution and higher levels of engagement (and fun!) for my team & I.
2) Focus – discipline in every stroke translates into discipline in priorities.Focusing on what matters most each day will you help advance the business for your external customers alongside of

your internal customer partners. Focusing on helping a fellow colleague through a coaching conversation to help them get clarity on how to have a ‘Career Best’ is rewarding for all. And, taking things off of your work list is important if it will not add the value once expected.
3) Enterprise Leadership – the pool is a reminder for me to not to stay in a single lane or ‘functional silo’. While it’s critical to perform at a high level in your functional area, yet real impact comes when you move or “swim” across “lanes”—collaborating, connecting dots, and advancing the broader organizational agenda.
Leadership isn’t about staying in your lane. It’s about being that Enterprise Leader that sees the whole pool—and having the willingness to swim wherever you’re needed at any time. Along the way, you will grow just as much as the business does…and have even more fun along the way on your career journey.
